DALLAS, Texas — The Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday it will reduce air traffic by up to 10% at the nation's 40 busiest airports as the government shutdown creates staffing shortages among unpaid air traffic controllers.
The cuts will affect major hubs including Dallas Love Field, where travelers are already experiencing disruptions. Demond Lemon had his flight canceled Wednesday and was rebooked for Thursday.
"I was supposed to leave yesterday and my flight got cancelled so I'm on this one. It's been a toll for sure," Lemon said.
Aviation consultant Michael Boyd of Boyd Group International said airlines are accustomed to making such adjustments and will likely reduce service on routes with multiple daily flights using smaller aircraft.
