Airlines are canceling hundreds of flights across the country starting Nov. 7, following a federal directive to trim up to 10% of flight service in 40 of the airport's busiest markets, including Indianapolis.

The U.S. Department of Transportation on Nov. 6 issued an advisory saying that the reductions would help ensure aviation safety.

About 4% of flights in these markets would be canceled on Nov. 7, increasing to 6% by Nov. 11, 8% by Nov. 13 and 10% by Nov. 14, the federal agency said.

Airlines and flight tracking services show at least 10 canceled flights in and out of Indianapolis International Airport on Nov. 7.
