LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — A 19-year-old man has pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in connection with a 2023 shooting that left a Lenawee County man dead.

According to Lenawee County Circuit Court documents, Trenton Berry, 19, entered a no contest plea on Monday, Nov. 3.

According to prosecutors, Berry entered the plea following concerns about civil liability, claiming a lack of memory regarding the incident. Documents indicated that the court accepted the plea deal, which stated that on Nov. 30, 2023 Berry, who was 17 at the time, caused the death of 41-year-old Kirt Stubbins, who was shot and killed during a hunting outing in Rollin Township. According to the Lenawee County Sheriff, Stubbins was in a relationship with Berry's mom at the time of the incident.
