SHAKOPEE, Minnesota — At Shakopee Bowl, the first thing you see outside the building is a familiar phrase in the world of sport: If you build it, they will come.

"The vision was here, and we built it, and people are coming," said Dave Johnson, owner of Shakopee Bowl.

But that wasn't always the case. Before it was Shakopee Bowl, it was Louisville Lanes.

In June 2018, the bowling alley announced it would be closing.

"A friend and I came up with a crazy idea to buy Louisville Lanes and turn it into Shakopee Bowl," said Johnson, who was building and remodeling homes at the time. "You've never worked in a bar. You've never worked in a bowling alley... I have no idea what I'm doing, what I'm getting myself into, other than I know I can do it. I know I have a vision."
