LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Federal maintenance records show that the UPS cargo plane that crashed in Louisville had recently returned to service after being grounded for over a month for structural repairs.
The jet, which was 34 years old, had been converted into a cargo plane for UPS in 2006 after initially serving as a passenger plane for Thai Airways. Advertisement
FAA records indicate the aircraft was brought to a repair facility at San Antonio International Airport, where issues such as a crack in a structural beam of the center wing fuel tank and corrosion on a major structural beam in the center cargo/bilge area were addressed. After repairs, the plane logged approximately 70 hours of flight time before the crash.
