TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A 12-year-old Griffin Middle School student was arrested on Thursday for “possession of a weapon on school grounds,” according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Department.

LCSO said school administrators and a resource deputy found a “black metal BB gun inside [the student’s] backpack” after receiving a tip that the 6th grader may have a firearm on school grounds.

The student faces a charge of possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds and was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center, according to the sheriff’s office.
