WEST SAND LAKE — Everything that happened to the Schalmont girls’ volleyball team Wednesday night screamed underdog story.

Entering the Section 2 Class B semifinal against second-seeded Colonial Council rival La Salle, a team which swept the Sabres 3-0 last month, the sixth-seeded squad forged comeback wins down 18-9 in the fourth set and 10-3 in the fifth to reach the championship round in set scores 18-25, 27-25, 23-25, 25-21, 18-16. Senior Brooke Holubek’s service ace was the match’s sealing play.
