FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno family lost five pets and their home to a fire Thursday afternoon.

Fresno Fire says when crews arrived at the Glenn Apartments, they were greeted by heavy smoke and flames coming from one of the complex's center units.

The family living in the unit was able to escape, but crews say their pets sadly did not.

After receiving no answer from the two adjoining units, crews had to force entry, but thankfully, no one was home and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
