MARION — November is Homeless Youth Awareness Month. The City of Marion and Regional Office of Education 21 partnered up on Thursday to recognize and bring awareness to this widespread issue.

Illinois schools participate in the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program, which supports children without a fixed, regular or adequate nighttime residence. In 2025, more than 6,000 students were identified as McKinney-Vento eligible across the southernmost 27 counties, with 310 of them living in Marion.
