CLEVELAND — Rob Summers has his first win as Cleveland State's men's basketball coach — though it definitely did not come easy.
Summers and the Vikings withstood a fierce challenge from Division III Capital University to pick up a 71-70 victory Thursday night at the Wolstein Center. CSU blew an early 11-point lead and actually trailed with six minutes to play, but held on thanks to some clutch baskets and defense down the stretch.
Shawnee State transfer Tre Beard finished with a team-high 13 points, including a driving layup that proved to be the difference Cleveland State would need. Former Richmond Heights star Josiah Harris added nine points, 14 rebounds, and two steals.
