MILLER COUNTY, Ark. (KSLA) - Senior citizen centers operated by David Boon Ministries in ten Southwest Arkansas counties may close at the end of this month due to federal and state funding cuts.
The ministries operate on funds from the Area Agency on Aging.
Leaders said they were informed Wednesday that all federal and state money will be cut off due to the government shutdown.
“Because the tougher it gets out there, the more people come in to eat ours because ours is free,” said Evonne Boon, with David Boone Ministries.
Yvonne Boon said if nothing changes, they will stop providing daily hot meals to around 700 seniors.
“It’s really going to be detrimental to our senior citizens in every county we represent,” she said.
The centers serve multiple counties, including Miller County. Sen
