TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) - Four years of construction has finally come to a close in Downtown Temple.
For the first time, the downtown square isn’t drowning in a sea of orange traffic cones. With the major project wrapped up, the city is shutting down the intersection of 2nd St. and Central Ave. one last time.
“We want downtown Temple to be the people’s downtown. We want folks to come out here to enjoy the businesses, to go out to eat down here and now that’s it’s so beautiful it’s just a welcoming place for them to come out and really enjoy it,” Nohely Mackowiak, a spokesperson for the city says.
Mackowiak says the city’s historic Hawn Hotel and Sears building are now apartments for lease and the historic Arcadia Theatre is back in business for events.
