PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A former officer from Phelps County was charged Wednesday with the sexual abuse of a minor. Details of the abuse came to light when the victim came forward with new information that reopened a case into the death of the former officer’s 2-year-old son in 2022.

Phelps County prosecutors on Wednesday charged former Doolittle officer Carl E. Swanson with first-degree child molestation, second-degree statutory rape and second-degree statutory sodomy. On Sept. 16, Swanson was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child in relation to the death of his son.

Swanson was placed on a $100,000 bond in the case related to the death of his son. He was placed on a $250,000 bond in the sexual abuse of a minor case. He has posted both bonds.
