GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Officials with GRACE Marketplace are thanking Gainesville city commissioners for selling them city land for a dollar.
Commissioners unanimously approved the sale on Thursday, with Cynthia Chestnut and James Ingle absent.
GRACE will be the owner of the multi-million dollar city property that it uses for its homeless shelter.
“Thank you for your support, for the transfer, which will, actually, it may in the foreseeable future, include some permanent housing there, not merely temporary,” said Robert Ackerman, Board Treasurer for GRACE Marketplace.
A city appraisal valued the land at about $4.5 million.
An agreement was included in the sale, stipulating that the property must remain a homeless shelter, or the land would be returned to the city.
