Ron Davis has been going to Florida basketball games since he was a student in 1959, back when the Florida Gators played at 5,000-seat Alligator Alley.
When UF moved into the O'Connell Center in 1980, Davis was there, perched in his seats behind the north basket. Eight years later, Davis, a high school swim coach, donned a moose hat and began waving a spare Speedo to distract opposing free-throw shooters.
"I waved it and they missed four in a row," Davis said. "So, what does that tell you? That means you gotta keep going."
The legend of the moose was born.
Davis was among an announced crowd of 10,065 to watch UF play in its home opener against UNF at the O'Connell Center on Nov. 6. Florida unveiled its third national championship banner shortly before tipoff, with 2025 joining 20
