The Chicago Cubs made both a no-brainer and questionable decision Thursday in relation to their 2026 roster.

Chicago extended a qualifying offer to both starting pitcher Shota Imanaga as well as outfielder Kyle Tucker. This year's qualifying offer is worth $22.05 million, and the Cubs will receive compensatory draft picks if both players decline the offer.

Extending the QO to Tucker is an easy decision, as it is an all but guaranteed way to receive an extra draft pick. Tucker is going to command close to $400 million in free agency, and the chances of him accepting Chicago's offer are roughly 0.0001%.

Imanaga, on the other hand, was a bit of a surprise choice given the current situation between him and the organization.
