COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia International University (CIU) is preparing to add more buildings to its campus with new student housing, following approval from the City of Columbia’s Board of Zoning Appeals to build up to three new dormitories.

The decision comes as the university experiences record enrollment growth. According to CIU officials, total preliminary enrollment for the fall semester increased by 10% compared to last year, bringing the student body to 3,239. This year’s freshman class of 285 students is also the largest in the school’s 102-year history, a milestone that has created a need for more on-campus housing.
