While it’s getting darker earlier as colder weather approaches, some shining colours could brighten up the night sky Thursday night.

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights , are set to glow above North America overnight, with much of western Canada and parts of the northern U.S. getting a front-row seat to the show.

The glowing lights could make an appearance over Toronto, as the city is just at the edge of the view line of Thursday night’s forecast, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) space weather prediction centre.

Northern lights could also be visible in parts of Ontario on Friday night, depending on the solar activity.
