NFI Group Inc. reported a net loss of $140.9 million US during the third quarter, compared with a loss of $15 million during the same period a year earlier.

The Winnipeg-based bus maker says its net loss per share amounted to $1.18 US, up from 13 cents a year earlier.

Revenue for the quarter amounted to $879.9 million US, rising 23.7 per cent year-over-year from $711.3 million.

Meanwhile, revenue from NFI's manufacturing segment rose by $164.2 million US, or 29.4 per cent, compared with the previous year.

NFI says it was hit by tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum in the U.S. and Canada during the third quarter, noting it is also subject to a new 10 per cent tariff on all imports of buses and coaches into the U.S. that went into effect on Nov. 1.
