AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - Columbia County leaders continued discussions on zoning ordinances tied to future data center projects on Thursday.
During the Planning Commission meeting, the room was packed as residents voiced concerns over lighting, noise, water usage, and other environmental impacts related to a proposed data center in Appling.
Some residents questioned whether the new zoning changes would apply to the current proposal.
“This ordinance that you're proposing modifications to is only for future data centers and will not be for this one. That's what I'm reading. Yeah, that is correct?” Janice Muller of Appling said in the meeting.
“That’s right,” a planning commissioner responded.
