As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up to inaugurate the year-long celebrations marking 150 years of Vande Mataram, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused the Congress of “historically distorting” the national song under the leadership of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan took to X to allege that during the Congress session at Faizpur in 1937, the party had adopted a truncated version of Vande Mataram, deliberately removing verses that praised Goddess Durga.
