OREGON, USA — Across Oregon, local governments are donating funds to address food insecurity amid the longest U.S. government shutdown to date and SNAP uncertainty.
Though a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to fully fund SNAP benefits for November after several states sued, the administration almost immediately appealed, with Vice President JD Vance calling the ruling "absurd."
The Tigard City Council on Tuesday voted to donate up to $10,000 of its city council funds, matching community and business donations to Packed with Pride , which provides food to families at Christ the King Lutheran Church every Tuesday and Thursday. Said program is organized by The Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools, in partnership with the school district and Oregon Food Bank.
