The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the removal of stray dogs from the educational institutions, hospitals, bus stands sports complexes and railway stations amid an "alarming rise" in cases of dog bites across the country.
The apex court has directed authorities to send the canines to dog shelters.
It also directed authorities such as NHAI to ensure the removal of cattle and other stray animals from highways and expressways across the country.
The bench said it would be the duty of the local self-government institutions to ensure that stray dogs are captured from such premises and relocated to designated dog shelters after being vaccinated and sterilised in line with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules.
