A BBC expert has said that the HMRC is set to recover £600 from state pensioners ‘in just one year’ of winter fuel payments. BBC Radio 4 Money Box Journalist Dan Whitworth explained on BBC Morning Live how people who earn more than £35,000 in a year will have to pay back the winter fuel payments - though the HMRC reclaiming via tax.

Anyone who earns more than £35,000 in taxable income will have to repay the money - with many simply deciding to opt out to avoid the bother.
