Every single unintentional shooting is a tragedy. Sadly, it’s recently come home to Rocky River. Ryan Rodriguez, 7, died of an accidental gunshot wound while visiting Columbus -- not because someone had a firearm, but because it was unsecured. Tragedies like this are preventable when we model responsible gun ownership combined with secure storage.

What is “secure storage”? When not in use, firearms should be locked and inaccessible to those who shouldn’t have access – regardless of age. Trigger locks and cable locks work well if the firearms aren’t used regularly. For quicker access, an inexpensive biometric safe can be unlocked with a thumbprint – only for those who should have access.
