GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - The Goochland County Board of Supervisors approved a controversial technology overlay district that would allow data centers to be built in the eastern part of the county.
The board voted 4-1 after a more than six-hour meeting that included three hours of public comment. The technology overlay district creates a designated area where data centers and other tech businesses can operate.
The project has faced opposition from residents because the area is next to a residential area. For months, residents have voiced concerns about noise, potential health risks and loss of open space. They asked the board to delay the vote to conduct further research.
