Similarities in the situations of the two prep football teams set to meet Friday night at Steve Edwards Sr. Field stretch well beyond their schools’ naming conventions.

George Washington and Woodrow Wilson are both coming off convincing rivalry victories on the heels of back-to-back losses.

Both are well within the top 16 teams of the WVSSAC Class AAAA playoff rankings, essentially assuring them playoff berths entering the regular-season finale in South Hills. The Patriots are No. 5, while the Flying Eagles check in at No. 9.

But both are looking for the upward mobility that might come from a win against a fellow foe in the Mountain State’s biggest class.
