Newtown police say Danbury man was struck by his own vehicle and died.

NEWTOWN, Conn. — A Danbury resident is dead after they were struck and killed by his own vehicle in Newtown , police said.

First responders were called around 6:15 p.m. to the area of Hawleyville Road and Old Hawleyville Road on the report of the crash.

A preliminary investigation determined that Valdemir Santana, 62, of Danbury, was operating a commercial motor vehicle and towing construction equipment northbound on Hawleyville Road. Police said Santana stopped and got out the vehicle on the northbound shoulder of Hawleyville Road. The commercial vehicle and trailer then started rolling forward at which time it struck and caused fatal injuries to Mr. Santana. The vehicle came to a stop near the Exit 9 Commuter Lot.
