BJP leader’s son arrested in Manipal for taking minor girl to lodge; POCSO case registered
Udupi: The Udupi Women Police have arrested Shreekanth Poojari (20), son of a BJP leader, after he was found in a lodge in Manipal with a minor girl. A case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said Shreekanth took the girl to the lodge after allegedly promising to marry her. When the girl’s parents came to know about it, they immediately alerted the police. Acting on the complaint, police raided the lodge and found that the accused had produced a fake Aadhaar card as proof of the girl’s identity.
Shreekanth was produced before the court on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody.
