FARGO — For more than two decades, Fargo City Auditor Steve Sprague has seemingly done it all.
The accountant-turned-government-official and his office handle a wide variety of city business: elections, liquor licenses, sewage repairs, utility bills, parking ticket payments, the wildlife management program, records, downtown skyway and pet licenses, to name a few.
City leaders have joked that, with Sprague’s institutional knowledge and friendly customer service, they’ll have to hire five people to replace him. The head of the City Auditor’s Office, which has nine staff members, is retiring after 26 years, with his last day in the office Friday, Nov. 7.
