HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - Senate Republicans blocked legislation that would limit Trump's ability to launch a military attack on Venezuela.

The legislation comes following several high profile missile strikes against alleged drug smuggling vessels in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. The proposal would have essentially prevented an attack on Venezuelan soil without congressional authorization.

The final vote on the resolution was 51 for and 49 against.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul was one of just a few Republicans to vote in favor of the resolution, while Mitch McConnell voted against it. Illinois senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin both voted for the resolution, while Indiana Senators Jim Banks and Todd Young voted against it.
