Anthony Barksdale, Baltimore City’s deputy mayor for public safety, has died, the Mayor’s Office announced Thursday night.
In a statement posted on X, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates called Barksdale’s passing “unexpected.”
Barksdale, a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute who first joined the Baltimore Police Department in 1993, was named deputy mayor of public safety in July 2022.
Barksdale previously served as interim police commissioner, director of security for Horseshoe Casino, senior vice president of Assured Protection and a national law enforcement analyst for CNN.
