Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday laid the foundation stone of the construction and beautification of the historic Cenotaph in Tura.

The Cenotaph in Tura stands as a memorial honoring the sacrifices of the Garo Labour Corps who served during World War I.

The project aims to preserve and enhance this historic site, ensuring that it continues to serve as a place of remembrance, pride and reflection for the people of Garo Hills.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, said that the Cenotaph at Babupara in Tura in honour of the Garo Labour Corps holds immense importance for the people of Garo Hills.
