Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on the heels of the first phase of voting in Bihar, told News18 that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on track to win “more than 160 seats" and to improve on its last victory.
“Our assessment is 160 seats, and we will go even beyond that," Shah said. “Last time, we won with a majority, and this time too, we will win with an even bigger majority."
The minister also framed one of the BJP campaign’s central issues as migration and citizenship claims in border districts. Speaking about Seemanchal, the north-eastern belt of Bihar bordering West Bengal and Nepal, Shah said the people there “want an infiltrator-free state". He insisted that voter-list corrections will continue, and argued those whose names are removed are not Indian citizens.
