ATLANTA — Airlines have started canceling flights at Hartsfield-Jackson after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced plans to reduce air traffic as the government shutdown continues.
Hartsfield-Jackson is among th e 40 airports ordered by the FAA to cut flights, along with airports in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and more. As of Friday morning, there were about 50 cancellations and delays at the Atlanta airport.
More than 815 flights have been called off nationwide , according to FlightAware. Delta Air Lines said it would scratch roughly 170 flights Friday, and American Airlines planned to cut 220 a day through Monday.
About 4% of flights are expected to be cut on Friday and 5% on Saturday until it reaches the mandated 10% which could result in thousands of canceled
