BRAINERD — A new showpiece with a long history hangs at the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport.
A homebuilt plane modeled after the 1933 Henderson Longster and finished by the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1610 Brainerd went up in the front entrance of the airport on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
EAA member Paul Noskowiak happened upon the bones of the plane a few years back, when it was donated to the Stearns County Pioneer Club by someone who had it hanging in a barn for about a decade. He looked at it on and off for years, having an interest in aviation, but originally wrote it off because it had been built with mismatched parts from a Volkswagen, a boat and lawnmower wheels.
But Noskowiak’s interest was piqued just enough that he took photos of the plane, put them out online and learned
