Three people are in custody while a man fights for life in hospital following an attack in the city centre .

North West Ambulance Service first responded to reports of a man found seriously injured on Back Piccadilly, between Piccadilly Gardens and the Northern Quarter , on Thursday evening (November 6).

The ambulance service contacted Greater Manchester Police at 5.44pm.

Officers saw the man, whose age has not been confirmed, in a life-threatening condition following an assault.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition today (Friday).
