Tom Noble and Faith Richmond discovered their baby had severed his left hand in the womb due to an extremely rare condition known as amniotic band syndrome. It happens when the baby kicks through the amniotic sac early on in development, causing bands of tissue to form inside the womb that the baby can get caught in.

The pair were “over the moon” when Faith found out she was pregnant in August 2024 with early scans and even genetic testing telling the County Durham couple that everything was fine. It wasn’t until they went for a private gender scan at 15 weeks that they were told their son no longer had a left hand.
