OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A fast response from the Oceanside Fire Department kept a vehicle fire from turning into a larger blaze Thursday afternoon after flames broke out in a residential garage. • The FOX 5/KUSI video above provides tips on how to prevent house fires

Fire officials say the fire started while a person was working on the engine of a vehicle inside the garage. Crews arrived within six minutes of the call and quickly extinguished the flames, which were contained to the vehicle’s engine compartment.

Thanks to the department’s quick action, the fire did not spread to the home or any nearby structures.

One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but was not transported. No major injuries were reported.
