ROCHESTER, Minn.- Gwen Walz was in Rochester on Thursday, Nov. 6 as part of a roundtable with local experts and DFL politicians on how to address gun violence in the state.
The roundtable was made up of experts in healthcare, education and local politicians to talk about potential ways to address increasing gun violence in the state.
Some of the ideas discussed included a ban on assault rifles, high capacity magazines and increasing mental health counseling in schools focusing on children who might be falling through the cracks.
"State's with stronger common sense gun violence prevention laws have fewer gun violence deaths," Walz said.
One of her main calls to action was for attendees to ask their legislators to address the issue in a special session or at the next session in 2026.
