COLUMBUS — Never did Columbus' football team think something like this would happen.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, the night of homecoming and one night after a 37-0 home victory against Whitehall at Graham Field, one of their teammates, freshman Easton Jones, was tragically killed in a car accident in Park City .

"It's been the worst," Columbus senior quarterback/safety Colter Chamberlin said. "I've never even thought of going through an experience like this."

Members of the Cougars have experienced other tragedies as well. A parent of a player, and grandparents of other players, have also sadly passed away during the season, Columbus head coach Tom Kurtz said. Then, on the gridiron itself, the Cougars have dealt with injuries to key starters.
