KILLEEN, Texas — As the nation endures the longest government shutdown in U.S. history — now stretching into its 38th day — two Central Texas sisters are stepping up to help those hit hardest by the ongoing crisis.
Twin sisters Alissa and Alicia Clemons, both longtime members of the U.S. military, are hosting a free pasta dinner Friday to support furloughed workers, military families, and others struggling to make ends meet during the shutdown.
The community meal, catered by Olive Garden, will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Texas National Guard building, located at 3101 South W.S. Young Drive in Killeen. The event is open to anyone who registered in advance, with organizers already expecting to feed more than 200 people.
