FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno Police Department will be looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence Saturday night.
Police say they will be conducting DUI patrols from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. Officers say that impaired driving is not just from alcohol; prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may also interfere with driving.
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, it is illegal to drive under its influence, according to police.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
