Former Lake Orion High School building part of new housing project

The site of the former Lake Orion High School building will be redeveloped into a housing project.

The redevelopment, called the Flats and Lofts at West Village, will create 89 residential units and an event space on the site with the help of the Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) program.

According to the Lake Orion planning and development office, the project involves the rehabilitation of the original high school building, built in 1927, for 29 apartment units (The Lofts) and the construction of an additional 60 apartment units (The Flats) on the site.

The site is located on North Lapeer Street at Elizabeth Street.

Formerly known as the Ehman Center, the building became a junior high school in the 1950’s when a new Lake Orion High School was built on E. Scripps Rd. The building ha
