The Special Investigations Unit has taken over an investigation in Haldimand County after a man was shot by police during a disturbance call near Selkirk on Thursday.
Ontario’s police watchdog says an OPP officer shot a 48-year-old man using a less-lethal firearm known as an ARWEN.
SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette said police were called to the house in the Selkirk area for a reported disturbance around 3:50 p.m. on Thursday.
When trying to make an arrest, police shot the man with multiple “ARWEN projectiles,” Denette said in an email.
“The man was apprehended and taken to hospital. He was not seriously injured,” she said.
In a media release, the OPP said the incident happened on Lakeview Lane, a short roadway near the Lake Erie shoreline.
