NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The calendar might say early November, but the New Haven Green is now officially in the holiday spirit.
This year’s Christmas tree arrived just before noon on Friday. Before that, the Norway spruce was in the front yard of the Porter family in Durham.
It was just 2-feet tall when they planted it. Now, it’s around 50-feet tall, and about to become the glittering centerpiece of the New Haven Green.
“The homeowners, Dick and June Porter, reached out to us at the city back in April, offering this tree,” explained New Haven tree warden Annie Mixsell. “So, I took a look at it in April and decided then and there that it was the one we were going with. So, it was a really smooth-sailing, easy one to get.”
