ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The Kent Plantation House is hosting the annual Sugar Day Festival this Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is the 32nd year the Kent House has put this event on for the community.
You can watch them fire up a reproduction of their 1840s sugar mill to make delicious syrup and sugar.
“It’s one of the few reproductions that we have here,” said Director of the Kent House Alice Scarborough. “It’s modeled after a 1840s Sugar mill because all the plantations, including this one, would’ve had their own sugar mill at the time, and then they would boil down the sugar and make the syrup and all that good stuff. Sometimes our syrup makes sugar, sometimes it doesn’t. It just depends on the weather.”
