Dozens of people came out to the Neighbors and Flavors event in west Montgomery, which offered them free food.

Last night’s event was hosted by Montgomery City Council member Franetta Riley and the Department of Economic & Community Development.

It featured local food truck workers and local farmers handing out free food and vegetables to those who need it, especially with the ongoing federal government shutdown interrupting SNAP benefits.

“This is the first of many events that we are going to put together right here in District Four,” Riley told Action 8 News. “This is a pilot program, and we’re trying to give back to our community, bring the community out so that we can interact and engage so we know exactly what our community needs.
