GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Piedmont Triad International Airport released a statement Friday after the Federal Aviation Administration established an emergency order to reduce flights due to the government shutdown.
Because of staffing issues caused by the shutdown, the emergency order reduces or temporarily prohibits "certain operations in the navigable airspace."
The FAA announced that, on Friday, certain airports will be required to reduce their daily domestic flights scheduled from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. by 10%. The order will remain in effect indefinitely.
As of 2 p.m. Friday, 1,270 flights have been cancelled across the U.S., according to FlightAware.
