TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) –A 34-year-old man has been denied parole for three years following the 2015 murder conviction of his roommate in Tulare County, according to the Tulare County District Attorney.
The DA says prosecutors were able to secure a three-year denial of parole for Rogelio Barrera.
According to the DA, on June 27, 2015, Barrera, who they say was under the influence of methamphetamine and alcohol, got into an argument with a man and stabbed him around 12 times at their rented home in Cutler.
Law enforcement responded after a call from another person at the home, where Barrera was arrested at the scene.
Barrera was convicted of second-degree murder with the use of a knife on August 4, 2017, and was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison.
